Kurt Buchs: Head Coach

Coach Buchs has 25 years of coaching experience at various levels to include Youth, High School, Junior and College. His focus is on developing both the on and off ice capabilities of his players with the goal of preparing them for competitive play at their current level and beyond.

Derek Mussey: Assistant Coach

Current Position: Assistant Coach Janesville Bluebirds Boys HS

A native of Janesville, Wisconsin, Coach Derek brings a lifelong passion for hockey and deep local roots to the game. He played high school hockey for the Janesville Bluebirds before continuing his development at the junior level with the Wisconsin Mustangs, competing in both the Minnesota Junior Hockey League (USA Tier III Junior A) and the Superior International Junior Hockey League (Canadian Tier II Junior A). He went on to play collegiate hockey at the University of Central Oklahoma, skating at the ACHA Division I level.

Since 2021, Coach Derek has been dedicated to developing young athletes in the Janesville Youth Hockey program, working with a variety of teams including 8U and 10U girls. In 2022, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the Janesville Bluebirds boys hockey team. Coach Derek is known for his emphasis on skill development, work ethic, and fostering a love for the game, and is committed to helping players grow both on and off the ice.

Dane Sjowall

Current Position: Assistant Coach Middleton Cardinals Boys HS Hockey

Dane is a former defenseman who played for Middleton HS and the University of Wisconsin (ACHA II). He began his coaching tenure at Middleton High during the 2023–24 season and has continued in his role through the 2024–25 season.

Devin Servin

Current Position: Head Coach Milton Redhawks Boys HS Hockey

Devin played collegiately for Bradley University in the ACHA. Devin has coached various teams at the youth and high school levels. Devin brings a teaching background to coaching hockey. Devin is passionate about coaching youth hockey players and developing the skill necessary to improve and develop as a hockey player.

Nick English

Current Position: Head Coach Janesville Bluebirds Boys HS Hockey

Nick competed at the AAA hockey level growing up. He has been coaching high school boys and girls hockey for the past 10 years. He started his coaching career in Janesville before spending one season as the Head coach of the Antigo Girls Co-op. He returned to Janesville, in 2013, as a physical education teacher and assistant hockey coach. Coach English helped lead the bluebirds to a trip to WIAA state tournament in 2015.

Nick was named head coach in April 2022 after serving as interim head coach for the latter half of the 2021-2022 season. He was recently named the 2025-26 Big Eight Co-Coach of the Year.

Josh Lehr

Current Position: Assistant Coach Janesville Bluebirds Boys HS Hockey

Currently serving as an assistant coach for the Janesville Bluebirds. In 2023, Coach Lehr helped lead Oregon to a runner up finish in the D2 WIAA State Championship. Josh personally competed at the junior and collegiate levels as a goalie. He has been coaching and evaluating goalies since 2009, through various programs including High Performace Goaltending, WAHA, and Team Wisconsin. He is a Physical Therapist at Mercyhealth in Janesville. 

Conor Lemirande

Current Position: Head Skills Coach for Janesville Youth Hockey

Conor currently serves as the Head Coach of Coaches for Janesville Youth Hockey. In this role, he focuses on player development, off-season strategies, and coordinating coaching efforts within the organization, often collaborating with the Janesville Jets of the NAHL.

Conor served as captain for his hometown Janesville Jets in the NAHL (2012–2013) before playing for the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL. After junior hockey, Conor was a four-year letter winner at Miami University (Ohio) from 2014 to 2018. He was a member of the 2014–15 NCHC Tournament Championship team and was recognized as an NCHC Scholar-Athlete. After college, Conor played briefly for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL (2017–2018).

Conor holds a degree in Sports Management from Miami University, which provides a structured background for his administrative and coaching roles.
